This week our class will be having our first star student! Each week our class will have a new star student between now and May in order for students to get to know more about one another and to give students the opportunity to be in the spotlight. The star student will be announced on Friday afternoons and when selected they will come home with an all about me poster to be completed with the help and guidance of their family members. This is truly their creation, so the poster can be as intricate or simple as they would like it to be. They will bring the poster in the following Friday morning to share with the class with the help of their parents. Parents of the star student are invited in from 8:50-9:20 on Friday morning to assist their student in sharing their all about me poster and to read their child's favorite picture book to the class. This activity may take less than 30 minutes, but cannot take more than 30 minutes due to our tight schedule. If neither parent is able to come at that time, we can find an alternate time or a grandparent, aunt, uncle, close family friend, etc. can come in place of the parent. If you are not comfortable reading a picture book aloud to the class, I am happy to read the book with advance notice. I am also happy to let you know what reading skills we are working on with the class so that you can get students engaged in the book and ask appropriate questions while reading (for example, we are currently working on students making connections to the book, either connecting the book to their own life or to another book they have read). I will e-mail you the week prior to your child's star student week.
We hope that this is an exciting and special time for both the student and their family!
Thanks,
Heather
